Is hypnotherapy training expensive?

It is easy to look at the price of any training course and compare it against the cost of other courses. However, if you are trying to decide whether hypnotherapy training is expensive, there are several things to consider. If you are looking to start a new career as a self-employed hypnotherapist, the most important point to consider is how well will it equip you for that future career?

Are you encouraged to practice throughout the training course on people with real conditions?

To become confident with any new skill we must practice it repeatedly. Typically, CPHT Leeds students will have at least 200 hypnotherapy hours under their belt by the end of the course. They will see their anxious volunteers become much more relaxed. Their clients may lose weight or stop smoking, as students use the tried and tested techniques seen demonstrated in class. This process is ideal for helping them to become competent and confident in their craft.

Are your tutors available between modules to help support you?

If you learn something new, it is likely that you will have questions. When practicing new skills between modules, CPHT Leeds students are given support if they need it. They may need guidance as they help their clients or help to answer questions in the portfolio. Regardless of their needs, the tutors of CPHT Leeds are available to answer their questions.

What are the qualifications of your tutor/s and are they still in practice?

When a tutor has their own practice, they are more likely to be up to date with the latest information. They will be familiar with issues facing self-employed hypnotherapists. The tutor will understand how best to market their business. Students can learn a lot listening to tutors talk about their own cases, while maintaining confidentiality. There are 2 permanent senior lecturers at CPHT Leeds, they are Jenny Mellenchip & Caron Iley.

Jenny Mellenchip has her own busy hypnotherapy practice in Stafford and online. Jenny is qualified to supervise hypnotherapists. She has held the AHD (Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma), the highest hypnotherapy qualification in the UK for over 2 years.

Caron Iley is an award-winning hypnotherapist with a very busy practice in Bolton and online. She is currently studying towards the AHD.

At CPHT Leeds we also believe it is important to bring in other lecturers occasionally. These lecturers tend to be experts in their field and help to provide variety for the students.

Will the course teach you the basics of running a business?

You can be great at what you do but if nobody knows who you are, how will people know to look for you? Marketing is an essential ingredient of the CPHT course. Course tutor, Jenny, is able to draw on her previous sales and marketing experience to give the students a good grounding in effective marketing. At CPHT Leeds, we also cover some basic accounting and data protection. These are both vital areas for students approaching self-employment for the first time.

Does the course allow you to pay as you learn?

When retraining for a new career money can be tight. We know it can be hard to come up with a lump sum to invest in your future career. This can be particularly difficult at the beginning of a training course before you are able to see any return on your investment. At CPHT Leeds we understand this and want to make it as easy as possible for you. After acceptance on the course, we ask for a deposit followed by 9 further payments paid from module 1 to module 9. This spreads the cost of the course over 10 months, making it more easily affordable for students. One benefit of the CPHT Leeds course is that from module 7, you can start charging half price for your sessions with clients. This gives you the chance to earn back the cost of the course before you qualify in module 10. Students often do just that!

Are the qualifications nationally recognised and if so to what level?

It can be frustrating to attend a hypnotherapy training course and pay out good money, only to find that the course has been an expensive waste of time. Make sure that the qualifications are nationally recognised and are accredited by the relevant awarding bodies. There are two qualifications you can achieve on the CPHT Leeds course, the DfSFH and the HPD. The DfSFH (Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy) is a full diploma and accredited by the AfSFH (Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy). The HPD (Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma) is accredited by the NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy). It is also verified by NCFE as a level 4 qualification on the UK’s national vocational framework. Both qualifications enable you to join the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council) the UK voluntary regulator for complementary health practitioners.

How soon after the course is completed will I be able to go into business?

If you have attended all the modules and completed all the practical assessments, you will qualify in module 10 with the DfSFH. This means that you can begin your career as a self-employed hypnotherapist straight away. The HPD is achieved through submitting a portfolio of evidence. The portfolio consists of questions to answer, to showcase your knowledge and case studies to show your competence. Students of CPHT Leeds can hand in their portfolio on the last day or the course. This is because the course allows them to practice on people with conditions. After internal and external verification, the HPD, which is considered to be the gold standard qualification in the UK, is awarded.

Why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is based on the latest research

As Solution Focused Hypnotherapists, research is very important to us. We want to know that what we are doing with our clients really does work. So, if new evidence becomes available that suggests we need to change the way we work, then we will. Equally, there is an increasing amount of good quality evidence now that suggests that the Solution Focused approach is effective along with the benefits of hypnosis.

The scientific area of Neuroscience is steadily releasing the brain’s secrets, an organ of the body that was once considered to be of little importance. In the 4th century BC, Aristotle thought that the brain was a cooling mechanism for the blood and that the heart was the seat of intelligence. We have come a long way since then!

As Solution Focused Hypnotherapists we base what we do on the latest brain research and neuroscience to help clients get back to being their true selves. At CPHT Leeds we make sure that our students understand the importance of research and how it helps us to become better therapists.  Everything within the course can be backed up by the latest research and neuroscientific endeavour.

CPHT Leeds is part of a National research programme called Clifton Practice Outcome Ratings Programme or CORP.

Hypnotherapy Research, CORP research, Compare results
CORP graph showing the difference between one practice and the average of all other therapists.

All our students are encouraged to take part in CORP and the cost of the first year membership is included in the course fees. It is the largest research programme of its type within the UK. It is designed to gather information of the effectiveness of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. However, it also reinforces the hypnotherapy sessions for the client in a positive and unobtrusive way. Students and clients can observe their progress based on the client’s own figures which can be incredibly reassuring. Students can also see how they improve in effectiveness as they work with members of the public. There are many hypnotherapists now using CORP and it has amassed in excess of 20,000 hypnotherapy sessions already. This gives students the wonderful ability to compare the progress of their clients against the average performance of other therapists using CORP.

Hypnotherapy Training and Sports Performance – Glenn Catley

Glenn Catley, Sports performance Hypnotherapy,Hypnotherapy Training, CPHT Leeds
Sports Hypnotherapy Training

The opportunity for all Solution Focused Hypnotherapists in working with sports people is tremendous. Glenn Catley is visiting us at Leeds CPHT Hypnotherapy training this month to explain how hypnotherapy helped him to perform at his very best on the night, taking the title of World Champion Boxer in the Super Middleweight division.

Perhaps the greatest help we can give sports people in improving their performance, like Glenn, is confidence in their own innate ability.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has its foundations rooted in what we know about the brain and how our brain works most efficiently. The more a person understands about the real way their brain functions, then the greater the progress can be made, not only in sports but in life generally.

Often when a person is struggling to achieve their best time, attempting to perfect their golf swing or mastering their nerves before a big race, their focus is on what could go wrong. This type of thinking is the precise reason why they have difficulties, it doesn’t help them improve. Sport is not all about physical ability, although it is that. It is also about mental ability. You often hear on the golf course: ‘I can hit the ball well in practice, but when it’s a competition the nerves take over’.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy provides our clients with an understanding, a perspective and a vision and how they can make it possible. When people direct their thoughts towards what they would specifically like to be doing differently, then they will get a specific result.  You know it makes sense! At CPHT Leeds we are very successful at producing clinical hypnotherapists that understand how people can enhance their performance.

Hypnotherapy also uses aspects of mental rehearsal, a concept that has around for many years. The Russian gymnast team in the Sydney Olympics in 1956 used visualisation techniques. Eleven hypnotherapists accompanied the team and it proved an overwhelming success, with the Russian team being placed at the top of the medal table.

Many top sports people use visualisation techniques to optimise their performance. In the London 2012 Olympics, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Heptathlon Gold medallist revealed: “I use visualisation to think about the perfect technique. If I can get that perfect image in my head, then hopefully it’ll affect my physical performance.” English Rugby Union player, Jonny Wilkinson regularly performs visualisation sessions before games. “You are creating the sights, sounds, smells, the atmosphere, the sensation and the nerves, right down to the early morning wake-up call and that feeling in your stomach. It helps your body to get used to performing under pressure.”

It’s a fascinating area and if you think that this is something that you would enjoy helping people with, then contact us. You could be joining us on the next CPHT Leeds Hypnotherapy Training in September 2020 at Leeds Trinity University.
