Fear of flying, or “Aerophobia” to give it its correct title, is actually on the increase even though statistics tell us that flying is the safest mode of travel. In fact, it seems that as many as half of us have some kind of fear around flying and air travel, although not all of these would be classed as a full-blown phobia.
The opportunity for all Solution Focused Hypnotherapists in working with sports people is tremendous. Glenn Catley is visiting us at Leeds CPHT Hypnotherapy training this month to explain how hypnotherapy helped him to perform at his very best on the night, taking the title of World Champion Boxer in the Super Middleweight division.
Perhaps the greatest help we can give sports people in improving their performance, like Glenn, is confidence in their own innate ability.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has its foundations rooted in what we know about the brain and how our brain works most efficiently. The more a person understands about the real way their brain functions, then the greater the progress can be made, not only in sports but in life generally.
Often when a person is struggling to achieve their best time, attempting to perfect their golf swing or mastering their nerves before a big race, their focus is on what could go wrong. This type of thinking is the precise reason why they have difficulties, it doesn’t help them improve. Sport is not all about physical ability, although it is that. It is also about mental ability. You often hear on the golf course: ‘I can hit the ball well in practice, but when it’s a competition the nerves take over’.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy provides our clients with an understanding, a perspective and a vision and how they can make it possible. When people direct their thoughts towards what they would specifically like to be doing differently, then they will get a specific result. You know it makes sense! At CPHT Leeds we are very successful at producing clinical hypnotherapists that understand how people can enhance their performance.
Hypnotherapy also uses aspects of mental rehearsal, a concept that has around for many years. The Russian gymnast team in the Sydney Olympics in 1956 used visualisation techniques. Eleven hypnotherapists accompanied the team and it proved an overwhelming success, with the Russian team being placed at the top of the medal table.
Many top sports people use visualisation techniques to optimise their performance. In the London 2012 Olympics, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Heptathlon Gold medallist revealed: “I use visualisation to think about the perfect technique. If I can get that perfect image in my head, then hopefully it’ll affect my physical performance.” English Rugby Union player, Jonny Wilkinson regularly performs visualisation sessions before games. “You are creating the sights, sounds, smells, the atmosphere, the sensation and the nerves, right down to the early morning wake-up call and that feeling in your stomach. It helps your body to get used to performing under pressure.”
Well we’re now over halfway through our first Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training course in Leeds. We can’t believe how quickly the course is going. Prior to the start of the course, we spent months assisting at CPHT Bristol. This allowed us to make sure that structurally, our course would be the same as all the other CPHT courses in the UK. It was an honour working with the founder of the Solution Focused Hypnotherapy approach that we use today, David Newton. This structure gives us our students the reassurance that if they cannot attend one module, they can attend one of our sister schools to catch up. It also ensures that CPHT Leeds benefits from the externally accredited, level 4 award from NCFE.
Every potential student is interviewed by us to ensure a good fit with the Solution Focused approach. Some of these interviews are held at Leeds Trinity university, the venue for the course. However, when attendance in person is not practical, interviews can be carried out via Skype. During the interviews, potential students are made aware of the need to practice their skills between modules. We make it clear that we want students to be ‘fit-for-purpose’ and to do that practice is a must!
Prior to every module, we spend time rehearsing the content for the weekend. We get all the paperwork together, discuss case studies we will use and tie down the timings. The work is shared out equally between us and it’s great that we can rely on each other. The modules build the students’ knowledge carefully. It’s important to us that the foundation knowledge is in place before we add additional skills. We carry out demonstrations for the students before we ask them to copy what we’ve done with each other. Students are then encouraged to practice on the general public, free of charge. This gives them the skills they need to grow in confidence and skill.
A typical CPHT Leeds Training weekend
Cathy & I drive up to Leeds on the Friday afternoon before each CPHT Leeds course weekend. The M6/M62 traffic can sometimes be quite a challenge! We set up the equipment at Leeds Trinity University before finally checking into our hotel. Then we look forward to a nice meal before having an early night and a good night’s sleep. On the Saturday morning, we arrive nice and early to check for any last-minute glitches. Our students generally start to arrive from 9:15am ready to start at 10am. After an amusing, informative and occasionally tiring day, we occasionally hold interviews for the next training course. After this we make our way back to the hotel and indulge our love of good food again, before another early night.
Sundays tend to be a little easier, with more practical exercises. As the course progresses, we film students as they carry out their practical assessments. At 5pm on the Sunday, we pack up our equipment and make our way home. We are always aware that the following day our own very successful hypnotherapy practices will need to be attended to. However, rehearsing material for the next module is always a priority.
Training students in hypnotherapy for CPHT Leeds makes for a busy life, but we both enjoy it. The lovely, positive feedback from our students makes it all worthwhile. If you would like to find out more about training to be a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, contact us on 07748 511841 (Jenny) or 07825 047849 (Cathy). Maybe you’ll soon be looking forward to a new career as a hypnotherapist?
Good marketing is one area of a new business that can be completely underestimated. You may have just qualified as a Hypnotherapist, but how do you let people know how good you are? Word of mouth is still the best and cheapest form of advertising your business but this can take time to build. Graduates of CPHT start generating word of mouth enquiries right from day one of the training course by practicing on friends and family free of charge. As a result, many graduates have a solid client base by the time they qualify and the confidence to put their skills into practice.
However, in the early days it is vital that other methods of promoting a new business are explored. Many of us will understand the power of the internet these days with 78% people going online every day. According to a report in 2015 by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) 69% of people in the UK do their product or service search online. So it makes sense for new hypnotherapists to have a strong internet presence. So what form should this presence take?
Is it enough to just have a Facebook business page or do we need a website too? If so what type of website is best? Do we need to be able to change its content regularly or will it be okay to make the odd change now and again? Someone once said that that “having a website and not promoting it is like having a billboard in the desert – no-one can find it”. So how would you best promote your website/Facebook page? What about other social media such as Twitter, YouTube or Instagram, do they have a worth in promoting your business?
What about listings in directories or newspaper advertising? Do you need business cards and leaflets? Are these types of promotion old hat? Are they worth the money that they charge? Does all advertising cost money or is some of it free?
All of these questions will be answered on the CPHT Leeds training course starting this September. We know that you can be a good Hypnotherapist without learning about marketing. However, if you want to have a good business too, then this training course will give you the business basics including essential knowledge about marketing.
The course is run by experienced hypnotherapists who run busy practices. We know what marketing works. This knowledge will help you to set up a successful hypnotherapy practice by suggesting the most effective methods for you. If you’d like to find out more about CPHT Leeds Hypnotherapy Training course starting in September 2016 at Trinity Leeds University, call Jenny on 07748 511841 or Cathy on 07825 047849 today. We are passionate about what we do and we would love to speak to you.
If you’re looking for a Hypnotherapy Training School, first you need to decide what you want to achieve. Do you just want to learn to do self-hypnosis? What about the more flamboyant stage or street hypnosis, is that more your style? Perhaps you’d like to help others to get their lives back on track? Are you looking at this as a hobby, albeit a financially rewarding one? Do you want to change career completely or simply add to your existing skills?
Once you’ve answered the questions above you now have a better idea of what to look for in a training course. Self-hypnosis is covered at a certificate level and although it doesn’t allow you to practice as a hypnotherapist, this may be all that you need to fulfil your ambition. However, some people start out wanting to carry out self-hypnosis and then decide they want to know more. If this could be you then maybe the diploma course would be more appropriate? If you’re looking for stage or street hypnosis to entertain, then a diploma course is not necessary. However, confidence and a stage presence are. There are many such courses available and a quick Google search will point you in the right direction.
If you want to help others to get their lives on track by using hypnotherapy along with the latest brain based therapy, then the Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Diploma is for you. Whether you wish to use it as a hobby, work part-time, supplement existing skills in your current career or train for a brand new career, then the CPHT Leeds course offers you everything you need.
CPHT Leeds hypnotherapy training is carried out by experienced hypnotherapists to the same high standards expected of all Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training schools. Accredited by the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), General Hypnotherapy Council (GHR), Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists (AfSFH) and Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council(CNHC). The Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma (HPD) is assessed at level 4 NVQ by NCFE.
The CPHT Leeds course is fun as we believe that you learn better when you enjoy what you’re doing. Despite this we cover some very detailed material. You will learn how the brain works and how to explain this to others in easy to understand language. You will hear about all the research that backs up everything we do in the therapy room. We will give you full support & guidance while you’re preparing your portfolio. We encourage you to practice on as many people as you can during the course. We will guide you during the setup of your business, if that’s what you want to do with your qualification. Then once you’re qualified, we have the experience, skills and qualifications to be your supervisors, so that the transition from student to practicing hypnotherapist is as smooth as it can be.
If CPHT Leeds sounds like the Hypnotherapy Training School for you, then fill in an application form today. The next CPHT Leeds course starts in September. Often it’s easier to explain what hypnosis is not, rather than what it is. This is because many of us have a distorted view of hypnosis due to an abundance of books, films and stage shows that distort our perceptions of hypnosis for the sake of entertainment. After all the media tends to dramatise everything in order to encourage people to watch their films, see their shows or read their books.
I had no idea what to expect the first time I was hypnotised and was quickly reassured that I would remain in complete control at all times. I would not end up barking like a dog each time EastEnders came on TV. In fact, I would only take on board the information that I found relevant to my situation. This was a relief to me as like most people I’m someone who likes to feel in control. There was also a distinct lack of swinging watches!
Learning to hypnotise others at CPHT Leeds
Our student hypnotherapists are encouraged to practice on each other during their very first hypnotherapy training weekend. After the first weekend we encourage them to practice on willing friends and family. This gives them confidence in their ability to hypnotise others very quickly. When they’re encouraged to use their skills free of charge on the general public just a couple of months later, most students are raring to go! In truth, most students agree, that their family and friends were much harder to deal with than the general public. By the end of the course they’re feeling confident in their abilities and will often have dealt successfully with quite a few conditions before they start to charge for their services. It is this element of the course that best prepares students for setting up in business.
As soon as the students graduate they start receiving regular supervision to help them handle any scenario they come across. This is the benefit of being trained by qualified supervisors, there’s a wonderful continuity where everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. We’ve been where you are at every stage of the process so we know how you feel.
If this course, run by CPHT Leeds, sounds like the one for you, just give Jenny or Cathy a call. We would love to hear from you. You might need to leave a message as we both run busy hypnotherapy practices, but we will always get back to you. We can’t wait to answer your questions!
